Manchester Metros vs. Newcastle Wildcats (Game 2)
The Manchester Metros hit the road Valentine's Day bound for Newcastle and Whitley Bay. The team would be facing off against Newcastle Wildcats in a battle for two crucial Division 1 North points. The last time these two teams met earlier in the season, the Metros found themselves fighting back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 at home.
The 1st period ended 0-0, which was much in favor of the short benched-Metros who were generating several chances.
The 2nd period saw the game beginning to be stretched as Newcastle tired legs were unable to keep up with the fitness of the Metros. The team opened up a 3-1 period lead by the end of the 2nd and were 2/3rds of the to leaving with two points.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats drew one back on a quick counter to bring the score 3-2, but that would be the last time they were heard from. Will Wells had the net on lockdown for the rest of the game. The Metros, with brilliant passing plays, extended their lead, tally after tally to a score of 6-2. The team was led by the Holder-Gunn-Langlois line who found their way thru the Newcastle defense with ease, netting all 6 goals as a line.
The two points could prove to be a critical momentum in the race for the season title.
Though, the Manchester Metros only a have a few days to dwell on their successes in Whitley Bay as bottom of the table, Warwick Panthers, come to Deeside on February 19th at 2230.
